- Ehhhh - before you make comments like that read up on the Rockwell modem chips
- and general modem performance. In formal testing the USRs outperform the Supras
- for connection reliability and compatibility by a noticeable margin. I have used
- a USR Courier v.everything at full speed under conditions that severely
- compromise the Supra 19.2kbps performance. (The Supra spends so much time
- retraining with its little front panel light declaring 19.2 that effective
- communications are in the 4800bps class.)
-
- I have also tried a Supra, a Practical Peripherals, and a Sportster on a link
- that I consider one of the nastiest modem challenges in the known universe, the
- INMARSAT-B mobile satcom link. (It uses 9600bps compressed speech for the voice
- channels.) The Sportster managed to maintain and hold 2400bps connections. It
- DID retrain alot. But it managed. The Supra and the Practical Peripherals either
- could not establish a link at any speed or could not hold it any useable period
- of time.
